ABOUT ADAM MAHFOUZ

Egyptian entrepreneur.
Creator. Medical student.

Adam Mahfouz is an Egyptian entrepreneur and creator, born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt. He is the co-founder and COO of Vizion, a cold email company he runs alongside his brother, and is known online as closewithadam.

He is also a medical student at Alexandria University, the result of growing up with what he jokingly describes as three acceptable career paths: doctor, engineer, or disappointment.

The beginning

Growing up, Adam was energetic, social, fiercely competitive, and, by his own admission, a little delusional about how far he could go.

He had always been fascinated by building things, the idea of laying one brick, then another, until eventually there was a city. But entrepreneurship wasn't the obvious path. For most of his life, success meant following one of the traditional careers laid out in front of him.

That started to change at university.

Adam realized that while he genuinely liked medicine, there was something he valued even more: freedom. Not only financial freedom, but freedom over his time, location, speech, and ultimately, the direction of his life.

Medicine wasn't something he wanted to run away from. He simply began questioning whether the path he had been given had to be the only one he followed.

Freedom over his time, location, speech, and ultimately, the direction of his life.

First attempts

His first attempt at making money came as a biology assistant. It wasn't a business, but it taught him an early lesson that stuck: you learn through immersion.

His first real attempt at building something online went considerably worse.

Adam spent roughly a year building a faceless YouTube channel called SelfImprovementMap. After a year of work, it had gone essentially nowhere.

But the failure gave him something more useful than the channel ever did: the realization that one bad chapter doesn't define the rest of the story.

So he moved on.

Building together

At the time, Adam's brother was building Taurus Acquisition, a cold email business. Eventually, Adam found himself asking a simple question: why were they both trying to build alone?

He joined his brother, believing that if they could each build something independently, they could probably go much further together.

Adam gravitated toward sales, particularly closing deals and handling objections, while taking responsibility for much of the company's internal operations.

Taurus eventually became Vizion Acquisition. In Adam's words, they decided to “kill the bull” to make way for a much bigger plan.

ONLINE IDENTITY

closewithadam

While building the company in 2024, Adam also started closewithadam.

The name came from his ability to close deals, but the content quickly became about far more than sales.

Adam was, and still is, extremely opinionated. At first, he posted about almost anything that crossed his mind. Interesting, perhaps, but not exactly an effective strategy for building an audience.

Rather than stop talking about random things, he learned to connect them to business.

Today, his content can jump from cold email to Duolingo, Netflix, television, buying psychology, or whatever else happens to catch his attention. The subjects change; the underlying idea doesn't.

For Adam, building an audience has never been purely about attention. He creates to share the guidance he wishes more people had, open doors that otherwise wouldn't exist, build something economically valuable, and, hopefully, change a few lives along the way.

EIGHTH GRADE / CHEMISTRY

One bad score.

His confidence that he can figure things out started long before business.

In eighth grade, Adam scored 1/40 on a chemistry exam, the lowest grade in his class.

For someone as competitive as Adam, that didn't sit particularly well.

So he got to work. He studied harder, worked smarter, and looked for every possible advantage he could find. Roughly a year later, on a significantly harder chemistry exam, he scored 97%, the highest grade in his class.

It's a small story, but one that shaped a much bigger belief.

Adam genuinely believes that if he wants something badly enough, there is almost always a way to get there. The first approach might fail. So might the second. The important part is being willing to keep looking for another one.

It's a belief that can occasionally look a lot like delusion.

He's okay with that.

BEYOND WORK

There is more to him than business.

Adam speaks Arabic and English fluently, alongside some French and Spanish.

Outside of medicine, business, and creating, he's into boxing, considers Suits his favorite series, and has had a borderline encyclopedic obsession with animals for as long as he can remember.

Ask him about business and he'll probably have an opinion.

Ask him about animals and you might be there for a while.

STILL AT THE BEGINNING

At 21, Adam is still at the beginning.

He's finishing medical school, building Vizion with his brother, and growing closewithadam with an admittedly ambitious goal: turning his name into one people recognize far beyond the corner of the internet where it started.

The ambition is big. The exact route isn't particularly clear.

And that's kind of the point.

Some of the moments Adam is proudest of so far haven't come from revenue, followers, or titles. They've come from watching a few of his friends begin questioning the paths laid out for them and start seeking paths of their own.

Where all of this eventually leads, he doesn't know.

There's a lot of uncertainty.
Just not much doubt.
